INTRODUCTION

Jaaxy is a Keyword Research Tool that is available as a FREE service direct through Jaaxy (or included in a Wealthy Affiliate membership). It really is a highly valuable service. I began as a Wealthy Affiliate member for the great hosting services (included FREE), FREE website builder and FREE training on how to blog, build websites, learn about affiliate marketing… and understand the power and use of keywords for Seach Engine Optimisation (SEO). I learnt about Jaaxy through this membership. By way of background, the owners of Jaaxy and Wealthy Affiliate are the same. In fact, Kyle and Carson began as keyword research tool resource some years back approximately 15 and have now created these 2 services. This review is on the former service, Jaaxy.

INSIDE JAAXY – A TOUR

What it looks like when you login:

inside jaaxy

This image is from a Free Starter account to demonstrate how much you receive during your trial membership level.

What’s Inside Jaaxy – Walkthrough tour:

Jaaxy has 4 Main Menu items:

The 2 main ones are Search (keywords) and Site Rank. When you go inside Jaaxy there is a main menu with these main items plus Affiliate Program details (you can promote and potentially receive affiliate income from a FREE starter account) and the FREE Jaaxy Help (training videos) included. Again these you can access from the FREE starter level as well. Great value!

1. Search (keywords)

The is the main part of this service, ‘the guts of it’ if you like. Within this menu item are 7 submenus:

  1. Keywords – This is where you get to search for the results of your keywords. All below definitions in quotes have been taken directly from Jaaxy:
  • This is where you enter your keywords (‘a phrase people type into search engines to find what they are looking for’)
  • Avg – ‘the average number of searches that the keyword receives per month’
  • Traffic – ‘visits to your website if you achieve first page rankings in the Search Engines’
  • QSR ‘Quoted Search Results’ – ‘the number of competing websites ranked in Google for this exact keyword’
  • KQI ‘Keyword Quality Indicator’ – Green is great, Yellow is OK, Red is Poor.
  • SEO – A score based on traffic and competition, the higher the score the more likely the more likely you will rank for this keyword on the first page.

Keyword Strategy recommended

THIS IS BIG. So listen up… In a nutshell, you need to aim for Average searches over 100 and QSR below 100 for ‘long hanging keywords’. What you are wanting to achieve is first page ranking for keywords with less competition and therefore easier to achieve. It is better to achieve 100 monthly searches successfully then never achieving traffic at all for high competition keywords. But don’t take my word for it.

Please note, Kyle talks about the Wealthy Affiliate Keyword Tool in this video however that has now been replaced byt the Jaaxy Lite level membership. However this does not change the principles of this training regarding the low hanging fruit keywords.

Go here check out the training where I got it from:

low hanging fruit keywords

  1. Alphabet Soup – here you can have endless suggestions of new keywords based on every letter of the alphabet
  2. Saved Lists – how you can save and organise your keywords
  3. Search History – handy for when you’re researching on a specific niche, you can go back and check what you’ve already searched
  4. Search Analysis – there is where you can get nuts and bolts information on your competition – those already ranking for the keywords you’re interested in with information such as are they using ad sense etc
  5. Affiliate Programs – a great added bonus to research affiliate programs for you to promote products and services as an affiliate marketer and
  6. Brainstorm – a tool to brainstorm on an idea

2. Site Rank

This is the feature as to why I upgraded to the paid Pro membership level. I now know instantly where I’m ranking. Therefore I know immediately what is working and what is not working. Saving so much time, energy and guess work.

Within this menu item there are 2 submenus:

  1. Search site rank – where you see exactly your page or post is ranking for a specific keyword on Google, Yahoo and Bing search engines. You receive results instantly. This is the reason why I upgraded from the Lite membership version available for free within Wealthy Affiliate to Pro membership. I can have my posts/pages searched instantly on the first 10 pages of Google, Yahoo and Bing. Therefore immediate feedback for how you’re ranking and
  2. Tracked Rankings – this is where you have saved your keywords on specific websites from Search site rank and decided to track how they are changing. Remembering that ranking will move a round a little when you initially post and tend to settle down after a couple of weeks. Some call this the ‘google dance’.

30 thoughts on “What is the Best Keyword Research Tool for Free?

  1. The WA keyword tool is all anyone needs to find keywords for content. The QSR, search and traffic features make using this tool a must for finding the best keywords to use. I have been using it for two years and still do.Great article.

    1. Thanks so much for your comments David, agreed it completely meets all my current needs. Plus in a way that I don’t believe is overcomplicating the area.

  2. I have used both key word tools and I would definitely have to say that I agree with you. People tend to side with Jaaxy only because of the granular details that you can get, but in terms of the actual results, they’re literally the exact same which is a good thing. But yeah I can certainly say that it works and is more than sufficient for that purpose.

  3. You pointed that out really well! I am on the same boat, I use the free WA KW research tool too and I like it. The only thing that is less great about it, is that you have to click for each KW to see the competition and it can take some time before that loads. So for now it is okay to me, but I will in the near future switch to a paid option. I’m not sure if that is going to be Jaaxy or another one. Just for this moment WA is great, it works for me and I am happy for you that you like it as much as I do!

    1. Yes Anja, I agree and yes now that you have highlighted this, I agree that this is one limitation. I’ll add to this review too – thanks!

  4. I like using The WA keyword tool for my article writing.
Your opinion is very useful for people who would like to improve content for their website.
    Than you.

    1. Thanks Eli, appreciate your comments. Yes using keywords is so simple but effective however often so many don’t know what they don’t know

  5. I love using the WA keyword tool because I find it easy to use and I can locate new keywords by using the ‘dig’ feature or just reading down the suggestions offered. Keywords are vital for people wanting to drive traffic to their site so thanks for this great article.

    1. Yes I must make more use of the dig feature too. Absolute pleasure, so important to activate websites. Thanks for stopping by

  6. Awesome. This is actually one of the least paid attention arsenal for any aspring blogger/writer. I must admit, I never knew about the importance of a great keyword research tool till I found it in Wealthy Affiliate (WA). I totally support what you said that WA has the best keyword research tool and JAAXY complements it up to a higher level. Thanks Fleur =)

  7. Hello Fleur, great Jaaxy Review, I must say. I use this keyword platform every time I need to do some keyword research, and I’m glad that it is free within Wealthy Affiliate. Keywords are essential to getting your blogs ranked high in Google, and them long-tail keywords help out a lot. Continue to do what you do, you are doing great!!!

    1. Thanks Ahmad, yes I use Jaaxy on a daily basis now it really takes the guesswork out of keyword research – delighted to hear it works so well for you and yes the free Lite level through Wealthy Affiliate is a great added bonus

  8. Oh yea…. now i get this low hanging fruit really well.
But let me ask you please, what if i have a keyword with zero QSR but up to 100 searches, does that make the keyword great?

I love this alphabet soup aspect but will watch this video again to understand it better, so i can implement it. Thank you so much

    1. Great Queen and that is a great question, I believe that yes that is still a great keyword as we are aiming to have QSR low (under 100). Also remembering as accurate as Jaaxy is, SEO is a forever evolving beast and the keyword could actually be performing slightly differently over time.

  9. Hi Fleur, I’m like you using Jaxxy Lite through the Wealthy Affiliate program.
I was very interested in your comments on your video about upgrading to Pro, as I am also considering upgrading.
Do you think upgrading to the Pro version of Jaaxy is worth the extra money?
Really enjoyed reading your article, and the videos are a nice touch.

    1. Yes, definitely Martin I now think it is essential to upgrade to truly know how you’re keywords are tracking, however, I also understand people are all on their own journey and priority of what to pay for at the beginning of an online business. WA membership is Number 1 then Jaaxy and then once you are getting conversions to sales or referrals from your site to invest in paid advertising as well as developing organic search traffic too

  10. Hi Fleur!
Thanks for an informative post on keyword research tool known as Jaaxy. I real like using this tool for my articles in my website. It is easy to find the best keywords to use when using this tool. I do not regret finding this tool and I will continue using it in future.
Again, thanks and all the best.

  11. Hi Fleur,
Wonderful article on the Jaaxy keyword research tool. I’ve been with Wealthy Affiliate for about a year now and didn’t really pay as much attention to the Jaaxy tool as I should of at first. For the first 6 months I wrote “ok” content but didn’t follow the rules for getting ranked. Once I started using Jaaxy the results have been definitely better.
I am going to check out the Pro version you reference here. I didn’t realize the benefit that it would show you where you are currently ranking, that’s outstanding!
    Thanks for the great article,
    Mat A.

    1. My pleasure Mat yes the upgrade to Pro is definitely worth every dollar you pay as it gives you real results immediately no guesswork – which is exactly what you need.

  12. I have definitely enjoyed jazzy as far as simplicity is concerned for a keyword tool. A lot of other tools out there seem to give more complicated metrics for measuring the competition. If there is one thing that I don’t like about Jaaxy, it is the fact that their affiliate program finder is limited to 4 affiliate networks. I feel a lot of affiliate programs get passed up because it’s not in those 4 networks.

    1. Yes agreed Jessie, Jaaxy is very simple to use which is great, why over complicate things?

Have you passed on your feedback to Jaaxy re the limitation of only 4 affiliate networks? Have they given a reason on their blog or FAQs?

  13. Hello, how are you? I loved your post !.

I am also a member of wealthy affiliate, and I must say that at the beginning, using Jaaxy was a bit complicated because I did not understand the terminologies, in fact I was completely new to the web pages and did not even know the importance of the keywords. Nowadays Jaaxy has become a tool that I use almost every day, there is no post that I publish without verifying the correct keywords so that I can go up in the ranking. 🙂

    1. It’s incredible the learning curve we climb when beginning on the online business journey Paola. I have experienced the same. With time, training and persistance the keyword topic becomes less intimidating and just put into perspective. Agreed I research all my keywords but I also don’t ‘over think it’ and get on with writing the quality content that supports the keyword. As I discussed here in a recent post: https://passion-to-purpose.com

  14. Thank you for this informative review. I’m a huge fan of Jaxxy. Whenever I am having a writing block, l always look up Jaxxy for brainstorming and getting new ideas. Another feature l like most is that l can spy on my competitors and how to outrank them.

One question, l came across a keyword that has more than100 traffic but zero QSR, is that make sense?

    Warmest regards.

    1. My pleasure Shui, yes Jaaxy is a very useful tool, and especially for writer’s block too thanks for the reminder!

If QSR is 0 that is great. As you know QSR means Quoted Search Results and therefore there are no competing websites for that keyword – so go for it, I say!

  15. I’m bootstrapping for now and just using Jaxxy Lite with my Wealthy Affiliate premium membership, but I do want to upgrade in the future and will definitely need the Jaxxy upgrade. It’s great that WA includes Jaxxy Lite to get us newbies up and running. Jaxxy is a really cool tool with great features and a must have for a successful blogging career. Thank you for a good review and I liked your helpful video.

    1. That is my absolute pleasure Alexander! Yes I hear you. Set your goals for when you reach certain revenue milestones then you can upgrade your tools to where you want to be. I’m delighted too that you found the video helpful.
