INTRODUCTION

Grammarly absolutely is a fantastic Grammar checker because it is accurate, intuitive and very easy to use. But it also is a Spell checker and Plagiarism checker too! Sound too good to be true? I know right, well have no fear there is a free level so you can get started risk-free. Plus a Google Chrome Add-on (yes you got it, Free too!). Included in this review is a tour of what it looks like inside and the basics of how it works.

So what are you waiting for? Oh, the rest of this review… Ok let’s go:

PROS/CONS

Pros

  • User-friendly
  • Intuitive
  • Free level to get started
  • It works and is accurate
  • You have the ability to teach spellings which are often specific to different countries

What I like most about Grammarly is that it is intuitive, it doesn’t get in the way like others spell checkers, punctuation checkers or grammar checkers that I have used in the past. It is also accurate because sometimes these online tools behave a bit weirdly. Plus it also gives you the option to ignore their suggestions. This is handy because there are some spellings (I’m in Australia) that are different to other parts of the world despite being English.

Cons

  • Took some time to understand the differences between unpaid and paid levels
  • A little confusing the advantages of upgrading
  • My understanding that the biggest feature of upgrading is the Plagiarism check

WHO IT IS FOR

This is a great product for:

  • Any business professional that writes on a computer
  • Great to maintain the quality of content across a team
  • Bloggers
  • Affiliate Marketers
  • Writers

Grammarly Tour – Take a Look inside

Often the best way to understand a product or service is to take a tour of what exactly it can do. The video tour above and this explanation is in the context that I have been using the free version for some months now. I had seen plenty of ads online about it but it wasn’t until a colleague raved about it that I decided to give it a go. Thanks, Mel for your article: Grammarly – don’t argue, just get it Sometimes that is exactly what you need a personal referral from someone successful in what you want to achieve. I can tell you since using Grammarly I have done nothing but enjoy it. So let’s get on with the tour. I provide a written version as well as I know watching video is not always possible especially if you’re reading this from your mobile on the go.

Once you have joined Grammarly, begin with a free account to get an idea of what it can do. You will be given the option to use a test document. This is great because it immediately shows you what Grammarly is great at doing. You also have this feature when deciding to use the Chrome extension too.

Basically how it works is, when there’s a problem or a correction that needs to be changed it comes up red and then when you hover over the red highlighted text a green solution is given which you can either accept or ignore.

Additional features Grammarly offers is assisting you to become a better writer by providing feedback; identifying where your writing is strong and what weaknesses can be improved. I personally haven’t used this service due to another membership that provides feedback and a plagiarism checker.

Grammarly can also learn to get to know your writing style better by going into your profile and answering the questions they provide and teaching Grammarly specific spellings unique to you or your niche or expertise.

Grammarly also offers the ability to save your templates or articles within their platform too. Handy to have all your writing in one place if you don’t already have an online service like this.

I personally the use Wealthy Affiliates Site Content platform (that is included in this membership) and this provides me with a place to save my templates and articles and also a Plagiarism checker too.

PRICE

There is a free option to try out the service both as an online account and as a Google Chrome extension or

FINAL OPINION/VERDICT

Best Grammar Checker Software Review = Legit

legitamit reviewThis is not only an easy to use tool but an intuitive one and one that is accurate. Essential for a Grammar checker and Spell checker. Plus it has the added bonus of a Plagiarism checker when you upgrade to a paid account. I highly recommend this especially the Google Chrome extension. It has transformed my writing and boosted my confidence that my grammar and spelling is much more accurate.

I welcome you to share your experiences using Grammar Checker Software here in the comments below:

  1. Grammarly has helped me save hours of work Fleur and I also highly recommend it to everyone who is writing content or any other form of writing
    Thanks for the great review

  2. Yes, I’ve heard of Grammarly, and I was glad you broke it down for me. I think I’m going to give the free version a try, but honestly I think the $29.99 is a decent price for all that it does. I write for a living, so having tools like this would really save me time for sure. Thanks for the info!

  3. Hi, this is a great review, I’m most interested in the plagiarism feature, as an online writer myself and knowing that many others are also doing the same thing, it helps identify your work as unique before submitting to keep your content your Own! This sounds like a great feature to me as I try to keep my work as unique as I can and don’t want to go over something another writer has already written the same exact way if that makes sense.
    Thanks for the info!
    Louise 🙂

    1. Thanks for your comment, Louise. Yes, it is important the issue of plagiarism while many of us write about similar topics it is important not to blatantly copy another writer’s work. However sometimes when you use a quote or reference and give the appropriate credit to another writer, then it is important to know that the internet is not classing it as plagiarism. Plagiarism can cause a lot of damage to your reputation as a professional writer, therefore, it is important to check your work against this tool.

  4. Hi,

I like your review. I use Grammarly checker for almost a year now. I am not a native English speaker but since I started to use Grammarly, my already high level of English, quickly rose to another level. I have so much gratitude to give to creators of this amazing software they did a fantastic job.

  5. Hey Fleur!

I am using Grammarly for a long time now and I have come to love this, as this is a very important part of my blogging. The reality is that even if you are a native speaker, you will much probably make grammar mistakes, which Grammarly will help you with. However, I am glad to know more on this through your article. Thank you for that!

    -Heku

    1. My absolute pleasure Heku – it is a great tool, one that I probably take for granted now but in a good way. In fact, I can’t imagine writing now without it. I’m delighted to hear it works well for you too as a blogger.

  6. Fleur, I have trialled Grammarly but don’t tend to use it. Way back in the dark ages I had an English teacher who was a master at grammar and never let a student’s incorrect grammar see the final light of day.

However, after using the net for so many years I can see where Grammarly is a must now, for so many people. Grammar has disintegrated, and often sentences don’t make sense or they convey an entirely different meaning to what I assume the writer meant.

Yes, hiccups do occur in my grammar (I am not getting any younger even though my brain thinks it is). So Grammarly is certainly a program I will keep in mind. I watched the video so have a good idea of what’s on offer. I like the plagiarism bit. I do a lot of research on the web and so often it is clear that an article trend carries through on other articles; to the effect that copying is going on and the editing isn’t personalising them very well.

You have written a nicely worded and easy to read review.

    CiaoHelen

    1. Thanks for your comments Helen. All tools that are available don’t always suit everyone’s needs. Grammarly is also a spell checker and punctuation checker too in addition to the grammar checker and plagiarism checker.

I appreciate your feedback on the style of my post that is appreciated.

  7. I have heard of Grammarly through ads on the tv. I have seen people in blogs say they personally use it because sometimes sitecontent misses some things.

I might give it a go since it is free I personally always have used sitecontent mostly because of convenience you know?

I always like a program that lets you try free then you get a feeling to see if the paid membership is right for you. Also $29 a month really isn’t all that bad it seems like the paid membership pays for itself if you need to use the plagiarism checker and other features.

This was a nice review I learned something new today which I like to have happen I like learning .

    I hope all is well

    Matt

    1. Yes Grammarly is well advertised but it wasn’t until I used it that I decided to download it to my laptop. I use SiteContent also but like how Grammarly kicks in when I tweak the already written post from SiteContent in the WordPress editor. Doing keyword optimisation and image tweaks once the post is published.

So Grammarly is similar in SiteContent because of the plagiarism checker but Grammarly is also a grammar, spell and punctuation checker also.

  8. I’ve seen a bunch of ads about Grammarly before but I’ve never quite understood what all the hype was about. It was interesting to read about what exactly it is and I’ll be sure to check it out! I think grammar is such an important professional skill that there’s no excuse not to invest in it. Bad grammar can completely wreck a resume or application, and likewise, good grammar can give you that edge you need over the competition. Overall, do you think upgrading to Premium Grammarly is worth it? Sounds like a mixed bag.

    1. Yes I was the same from the ads but it was when I started using the free version and read a colleagues recommendation that I began to use it.

I would upgrade to their Premium version if you’re not a Wealthy Affiliate member and therefore don’t have access to the plagiarism checker within SiteContent which is included in WA member. As I am a WA member I currently use the free Grammarly version.
